Growing Fresh Food, Right Where It’s Needed: Fork Farms Partners with Makers Row to Bring More Access to Fresh Food
Something exciting is sprouting in West Allis. Fork Farms is teaming up with Makers Row to create a new kind of urban farm — one that will grow thousands of pounds of fresh, local produce each month for the community.
Located at the corner of West National Avenue and 66th Street in Milwaukee, this 5,000-square-foot farm will be home to rows of leafy greens and lettuces, grown indoors with Fork Farms’ hydroponic technology. When fully up and running in 2026, the farm will produce up to 34,000 pounds of food every year, making it one of the largest sources of fresh, locally grown greens in the area.
This is more than just a farm. Fork Farms will also open its Milwaukee-area headquarters and hydroponic showroom within Makers Row, a hub dedicated to supporting Wisconsin-based, food-focused businesses. Together, the partnership creates a powerful model for how neighborhoods can bring food production back home—strengthening the local food system, creating jobs, and offering new ways for people to connect with where their food comes from.
“We are elated to partner with Makers Row Farms and grow food that directly serves the local community,” said Michael Hostad, Chief Revenue Officer at Fork Farms. “By producing food right where it’s eaten, we’re creating a more sustainable and resilient food system for future generations.”
The location will also connect directly to the nearby West Allis Farmers Market, giving community members more opportunities to access fresh produce grown just down the street.
At Fork Farms, we believe that everyone deserves access to food that is fresh, healthy, and local. This partnership is one more step toward building that reality — not just for West Allis, but for communities everywhere.
Stay tuned as we share progress on the new farm and celebrate milestones along the way. Together, we’re growing something truly special. Read more here in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
