Clover High School Students Grow Fresh Food and Future Skills with Support from Rotary Club of Lake Wylie
This November, Clover High School in Clover, South Carolina, celebrated a milestone that brings innovation, education, and nutrition together under one roof. Thanks to the generous support of the Rotary Club of Lake Wylie, students and teachers at Clover High are now growing fresh, healthy food year-round through the installation of five Flex Farms from Fork Farms.
The partnership between Clover High and the Rotary Club is a shining example of how communities can come together to inspire the next generation of changemakers. The Rotarians not only funded the Flex Farms and a full year of growing materials, but are also volunteering their time to help students harvest and maintain the systems. Rotarians are learning right alongside the students.
As part of their science and agriculture curriculum, Clover students have already planted and are maintaining their Flex Farms, which can collectively grow up to 100 pounds of fresh greens each month. Once harvested, the produce will be shared on the school cafeteria line for all students to enjoy—bringing the concept of “farm to school” to life inside their own building.
The Flex Farm, allows schools like Clover High to produce up to 25 pounds of lettuce every 28 days in less than nine square feet of space. Beyond fresh food, it provides hundreds of learning opportunities in STEM, nutrition, agriculture, sustainability, and health—connecting classroom concepts to real-world impact.
Hydroponic farming, the method of growing plants without soil, is a sustainable and efficient way to produce food that conserves water, reduces waste, and eliminates transportation emissions. For Clover High students, it’s also a chance to think differently about where food comes from and how innovation can shape a healthier future.
Fork Farms is proud to partner with schools like Clover High and organizations like the Rotary Club of Lake Wylie to make fresh, local food accessible year-round, while fostering hands-on education and community collaboration.
