Germinating and Transplanting Microgreens

Part 3 of 4: A guide on growing microgreens in your Flex Micro

When to Remove the Humidity Dome and Begin Lighting Your Microgreens
  • Check your seeded microgreen trays daily. When more than 90% of the seeds have germinated (cracked open), remove the humidity dome and turn the light on (or move them under a tier with other growing microgreens). This typically occurs between days 2 and 7, depending on the variety.

During germination, microgreen seeds do not need light. The humidity dome creates a stable environment with increased humidity, helping prevent the seeds from drying out. Depending on the microgreen variety, seeds typically germinate between day 2 and 7. Each day, check if at least 90% of the seeds have cracked and begun to sprout.

  • If fewer than 90% of the seeds have germinated, keep them on a tier with the light turned off and the humidity dome in place. Continue checking daily until germination exceeds 90%.
  • Continue to follow the grow guide’s best practices to maintain optimal water, nutrient, and pH levels. Careful monitoring and adjusting will support a faster, healthier harvest.

Be sure to remove the humidity dome once more than 90% of the seeds have germinated—this step is essential to minimize the risk of mold. You do not need to transfer the microgreens to light immediately after germination. If you prefer a taller microgreen for culinary use, you can wait a few extra days before exposing them to light. This choice is up to you and will result in slightly taller microgreens with a longer overall growing time.

Congrats your microgreens have completed the germination stage—well done! Continue to Part 4 of 4: Harvesting Microgreens for next steps.
