Refilling your Tank & Rebuilding the Irrigation (Part 6 of 7)

Part 6 of 7: How to flush the pump, refill your Flex Acre to level, and put the Tank Lid and pipes back on

With your Panels, Root Chambers and Frame washed, follow the instructions in this article to flush the pump, refill your Tank, and rebuild the vertical irrigation from the pump upward.

Gather Tools:

  • Garden Hose
  • Ladder

Step 1: Flush the Pump and Irrigation

  1. Reconnect pipe "A" to your cleaned Primary Pump.
  2. Place the pump in its pump filter bag inside your Tank.
  3. Confirm your Light Bars are still unplugged before you run water, as the light system is not waterproof.
  4. Run water through your hose to flush the algae out of the irrigation and the inside of the pump.
  5. Let the water run until only clean water is coming out.

Step 2: Refill your Tank

  1. Turn off the water.
  2. Lift the pump and its pump filter bag out of your Tank.
  3. Reconnect the pump in your Tank.
  4. Begin filling your Tank with your hose.
  5. Keep filling until your Tank is almost full.

Your Tank is now holding plain fresh water, which is what your first nutrient dose is measured against.

Step 3: Set your Tank Lid and Pump

  1. Turn off the water.
  2. Lift the pump back out so your Tank Lid can sit flat.
  3. Set the clean and sanitized Tank Lid onto your Tank.
  4. Lower the pump and its pump filter bag through the corner hole in your Tank Lid.
  5. Place the Lid Plug drilled for pipe "A" over the pipe from the pump.

Step 4: Rebuild your Irrigation

  1. Connect the 90 degree fitting above the pump.
  2. Fasten the 2 lower velcro straps.
  3. Connect pipe "B" to the Main Send Valve (called the primary valve in your Assembly Manual).
  4. Screw your clean Disc Filter onto the line above the Main Send Valve.
  5. Connect pipe "C" to the quick disconnect fitting on your Disc Filter.
  6. Fasten the top 3 velcro straps.
  7. Connect the irrigation to the 90 degree fitting at the Corner Post.

Work from the pump upward, the exact reverse of Taking Apart & Cleaning your Irrigation Pipes (Part 4 of 7). Reinstall every piece exactly as it came off, so every joint seals the way it did before.

NOTE: YOUR TOP CAPS AND BOTH DRIP LINES STAY OFF UNTIL PART 7 OF 7.

Step 5: Set your Valves

  1. Close the Drain Valve at the bottom of the vertical line.
  2. Disconnect your hose from the Drain Valve.
  3. Open the Main Send Valve just below your Disc Filter.

Step 6: Replace your Lid Plugs and Tank Lid Supports

  1. Set the remaining 5 Lid Plugs into the open holes in your Tank Lid.
  2. Clip the Water Level Tool to the Tank Lid hole next to the pump.
  3. Slide the 3 Tank Lid Supports back under your Tank Lid.
  4. Center each Tank Lid Support as best you can.

If you are fitting a newer set of Tank Lid Supports rather than your original 3, follow the steps in Flex Acre Tank Lid Support Upgrade Guide for the positions.

Step 7: Replace and Level your Root Chambers

  1. Put all 16 Root Chambers back into your Flex Acre, 8 per side.
  2. Climb your ladder.
  3. Sight across the tops of your Root Chambers.
  4. Find any Root Chamber sitting higher than the rest.
  5. Rest that Root Chamber on the Tank Lid.
  6. Reach into your Tank with clean hands.
  7. Push the bottom of the Tank Lid Support toward the middle of the other 3 Root Chambers.
  8. Stop pushing once the Tank Lid Support stops moving, which is typically after a little movement.
  9. Set the Root Chamber back into position.

Step 8: Top Off and Finish

  1. Add water until the level sits between the MIN and MAX lines on the Water Level Tool.

Keep your water level above the top of your Primary Pump, as running a pump dry will damage it. Your Disc Filter was cleaned at the bench in Part 3 of 7, and the weekly rinse in place is in Cleaning your Disc Filter (Part 2 of 5).

Your Tank is full and your vertical irrigation is back together—well done!
