Summer is in full swing, and nature is in full bloom, and so are the people and communities we serve. At Fork Farms, this season is more than a turning point on the calendar; it is a time that reminds us of something we see every day inside our Flex Farms – growth! And we think growth is a process worth celebrating.
At Fork Farms, we love seeing vibrant lettuces and herbs thriving inside Flex Farms. What excites us even more is the transformation happening all around Flex Farms. In classrooms, students are learning that food does not come from a truck or a package; it comes from care, time, and science. In community centers, residents are realizing they can be part of the solution to food insecurity, right where they live. In food pantries, clients are given the opportunity to consume fresh, nutritious foods.
Like any good growing season, this takes:
While traditional, outdoor gardens are flourishing across the country, Flex Farms have the ability to grow year-round, in all weather, inside school cafeterias, libraries, community pantries, and even beyond. As summer thrives on, many partners are keeping their indoor farms growing, ensuring fresh produce continues to reach families, community centers, and those in need during a time when fresh food access often drops.
From spinach in California to tomatoes and basil in Massachusetts, we’re seeing how controlled environment agriculture helps communities defy both seasonal limits and food access barriers. The Flex Farm is a mobile hydroponic vertical farm that can grow lettuce, greens, herbs, and a variety of other foods on-site, quickly, efficiently, and affordably. One Flex Farm can grow 25 pounds of lettuce every 28 days alone. This hydroponic growing system can grow fresh foods constantly, regardless of season, climate, and access to healthy soil.
As you enjoy summer, we invite you to reflect on what’s grown in your world this year, both in and out of your farm or your home garden. Whether you’re a student, educator, food service leader, or nonprofit partner, your work is planting seeds of change that will keep growing long after the harvest.
We’re proud to be growing alongside you. Reach out today to find out more ways you and continue to grow with us!
